NDC activist calls for transparency in car auctioning
A leading member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on the Government to act decisively to bring transparency into the auctioning of seized vehicles by the Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS).
Alhaji Gado Sulemana said the present system was fraught with corrupt practices and this needed to be tackled head-on and with urgency.
“It is important measures are taken to avoid the mistakes of the past,” he told the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi.
He claimed that an articulated truck allocated to him by CEPS was sold under bizarre circumstances.
He said the explanation given to him by the officials that the truck was sold with “instructions from above” was unconvincing and suspicious.
Alhaji Gado appealed to the Office of the Chief of Staff and the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, to streamline the mode of auctioning the vehicles to seal the revenue leakages.
“Those who are ripping the nation off should be exposed and brought to justice,” he added.
