According to the release, Newmont Ghana contributed to the achievement by its consistent pursuance of sustainable, socially and environmentally responsible mining.
The ranking also follows Newmont’s renewed selection in 2009 into the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability World Index for the third consecutive year. In 2007, Newmont became the first gold company to join the DJSI World.

The 2010 rankings show that Newmont Mining Corporation scored higher marks in four of the seven categories, compared to its 2009 performance, while maintaining the same excellent score in Governance. Newmont joins respected businesses such as Hewlett-Packard, Intel, Coca-Cola, IBM and Microsoft on the list and is the only mining company in the top 20, the release said.
