Government acquires land for bloc farming

Government has acquired many acres of farmland for extensive bloc farming in the North Tongu District, Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, a Deputy Minister of Information said at the weekend.

He said the farm would employ hundreds of unemployed youth in the Area and reduce migration to urban areas.

Mr Okudzeto said this in an interaction with the media at Mepe, after a Thanksgiving Service and a first anniversary rally, organized by the North Tongu Constituency of the National Democratic Congress.

The rally also witnessed the enstoolment of Ms Hannah Tetteh, Minister of Trade and Industry as Development Queen of the Area, and the honouring of government officials from the area.

Mr Okudzeto said by the end of this month, the government would move farming machinery to the area for commencement of work and urged the young people to welcome the project.

He expressed optimism that with the presence of the Volta Lake in the Area, the project would be viable and expressed the hope that it would open up the place for accelerated development.

Mr Okudzeto said creating jobs remained a top priority on the government’s agenda and urged young people to take advantage of these interventions to establish themselves.

He advised them to be hard working but not avoid a “get rich quick attitude”.
