State Housing Company says still in business of providing affordable housing
Mr. Mark Nii Akwei Ankrah, Managing Director of State Housing Company (SHC) on Tuesday outlined the company’s mission to provide affordable and quality housing to Ghanaians.
Mr. Ankrah said the country was experiencing significant housing shortage which had created a lot of slums in the capital which posed a big challenge to human development in the country.
Speaking to Management of Ghana News Agency in Accra, Mr. Ankrah, said the Company would not concentrate its activities only in the urban areas, but also in the rural areas in fulfilment of its commitment to provide housing for all Ghanaians as practicable as possible, regardless of income levels.
He said the company was embarking on social housing to serve as a platform for Ghanaians to embrace affordable housing which would be relevant to the social and cultural needs of the people.
He announced that the sale and rental of all public housing units in the country would be supervised by SHC to eliminate unqualified persons in the queue.
Mr. Ankrah said for the past years, government had being addressing housing issues with only foreign investors thus abandoning the SHC in process which “makes the company feel rejected by its own government.”
He added that social housing would also create employment for the tertiary cycle graduate since his or her services would be needed most.
