Road show on new pay policy

The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), has embarked on a nationwide road show to provide workers with information to deepen their understanding about the Single Spine Pay Policy (SSPP).

The road show is to create a platform for the commission to directly engage workers to discuss the SSPP and find amicable ways to resolve workers’ grievances about the new pay policy.

A statement signed by Mr George Smith Graham, Chief Executive of FWSC on Monday said the first series of the road show took place last week at Cape Coast in the Central Region and made a stop at Takoradi in the Western Region.

Mr. Graham said critical issues to be discussed include; the design and the structure of SSPP, classification of pay service policy, market premiums and inducement strategies to retain critical skills in the public service, category of allowance, job analysis and re-evaluation.

He said the Commission was optimistic about the road show because the discussions with the workers would greatly facilitate effective implementation of the policy.

“We at the Commission will continue to work with transparency and integrity and in collaboration with all our partners and the rank and file of civil and public service workers at all times, as we collectively implement the SSPP in a sustainable manner such that no public service will be disadvantaged” he said.

On the developments that had taken place, Mr. Graham said FWSC have had one on one interactions and engagements with some of its stakeholders on the SSPP to sensitise and brief them on the progress so far made towards the implementation of the policy.

He said he was confident that the road show would enhance the knowledge of the rank and the file of workers about the new policy to facilitate a successful implementation.
