Nkwanta South District to step-up revenue generation efforts

The Nkwanta South District Assembly is fashioning out strategies to correct why it failed to achieve its revenue targets for 2008 and 2009.

At a meeting on Wednesday, Mr Joseph Ninkab, the District Chief Executive, said the Assembly only managed to collect GH¢73,229 out of the projected revenue of GH¢106,130 in 2008.

He said the performance was no better in 2009 with a more ambitious target of GH¢136,828. Mr Ninkab added that the revenue generated for the first half of 2009 stood at GH¢7,202.

He was, however, optimistic that with the current measure being put in place, which he did not immediately disclose, the situation could improve in subsequent years.

Mr Ninkab said an amount of GH¢196,989 and GH¢188,732 were received as the Assembly’s share of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) for the periods under review.

He said seven bore holes and four KVIPs costing GH¢110,000 are under construction in some communities under the District Works Development Programme.

Mr Ninkab said contracts on the Aguo Junction-Kabiti and Odumase-Kofi Akura feeder roads had been awarded at a cost of GH¢120,000.

He said the Bontibor-Pusupu road had also been awarded under the National Cashew Programme.

He said development projects in education, health, water and sanitation and local governance were receiving attention under the sixth European Union Micro Project Programme, the Community Based Rural Development Project and DACF.
