Man remanded for defrauding medical officer

A district magistrate court at Ajumako has remanded Twum Barima, 46, for posing as a personnel of the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) and defrauding Dr. Anthony Aidoo, Managing Director of Betel Herbal Center in Ajumako of 1,800 Ghana Cedis.

The accused person who, pleaded not guilty to the charges, would re-appear before the court on January 26, 2009.

Police Chief Inspector Emmanuel Maxwell Akorli told the court presided over by Mr. Kwesi Boakye-Enimil that the accused person in October last year introduced himself to the victim as a staff of the BNI stationed in Tema, who has been assigned temporary duties in the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District.

Prosecution said Barima later promised to help Dr. Aidoo to secure a number of vehicles from Nso Nyame Ye Auctioneering Company in Tema.

Chief Insp. Akorli said after Barima received the amount from the complainant for the purchase of the vehicles and produced a letter purported to have been written by the Managing Director of the company, Mr. Samuel Somuah, acknowledging receipt of the money.

According to prosecution, Dr Aidoo suspecting a foul deal, reported the accused person to the police.
