Ga West Municipality organises workshop on water projects

Ga-West Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with the Management of K. Adu Construction and Plumbing Works (KACPW) on Tuesday organised a workshop to sensitise stakeholders on pipe borne water projects in the communities.

The project is to provide potable water and protect the people from water borne diseases.

Mr Kwaku Adu Boateng, Chief Executive Officer of KACPW said issues to be discussed at the workshop would include provision of water, control and management to avoid waste in the system.

He explained that the project was initiated because for the past 20 years the communities lacked potable water, and available information indicated that the Municipality is the second most prevalent buruli-ulcer endemic area.

Mr Boateng said the first phase of the project was estimated at about GH¢961,460 and would cover Amasaman, Fise, Abehenase, Obeyeyie and Achiaman.

He said each household would contribute GH¢106.10 towards the project.

Mrs Louisa Hanna Bissiw, Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, noted that inadequate environmental sanitation is linked to poverty and lack of access to potable water and food security.

Mr Attukwei E. Armah, Member of Parliament for Trobu Amasaman, expressed appreciation for the project, which he said would improve the living standards of the people.

He called for unity among the people and report those who indulge in illegal water connections.

Mr Ebenezer Nii Armah Tackie, Municipal Chief Executive stressed the need for intensified education on illegal connections and urged the people to report culprits for prosecution.

He announced that regular consultations would be undertaken to solicit views on problems facing the communities.
