Doctor calls for active male involvement in family planning

Dr K. Boakye Boateng, the Director Kwabre District of Health Service, has called for active male involvement in family planning decisions.

He said the situation where women are generally seen as the key actors, regarding family planning matters, was unacceptable and would need to change.

Both men and women have equal role to play in the prevention of maternal and child deaths, he said.

They should all therefore avail themselves of medical advice and support.

Dr Boateng was addressing separate health education forums at Adanwomase, Mamponteng, Dumanafo and Kenyase.

Attending were chiefs, queens, non-governmental organizations, traditional birth attendants and health workers.

It formed part of activities designed to have clear understanding of reproductive health and increase family planning acceptance among people in the area.

Dr Boateng said it was time married couples jointly planned the size of their families and the proper management of their homes.

He said large families were simply unhelpful to the fight against poverty and the health of mothers.
