Schlumberger supports Bompeh High Sch. with ICT Centre
A new Information Communication and Technology (ICT) centre has been built to support students of the Bompeh Secondary Technical School, with initially, 20 Dell computers and accessories with available internet facilities, for the students to learn to acquaint themselves with the growing trend of the information world.
The centre, which was inaugurated last week, was put up by the school’s management, and supported by Schlumberger Technical Services Inc, in collaboration with the parent Teachers Association (PTA) of the school. In his welcome address, the Metro Director of Education, Mr. Maxwell Morgan, said the PTA had been proactive in bringing the school into the limelight, providing essential teaching and learning materials, and deserves commendation.
On her part, the Western Regional Director of Education, Mrs. Rebecca Efiba Dadzie, in her address, noted that the world was changing fast, and people who decided to remain dormant would definitely be left behind, in this time of the highly competitive socio-economic and technological advancement, therefore she described the intervention by the PTA, to help the school with the ICT centre, as heartwarming.
She, however, cautioned the tutors and the student body to use the centre with care.
The Headmistress of the school, Mrs. Aba Smith, in an address, commended the company and all the other stakeholders, who made the centre operational.
She, however, expressed the confidence that the centre would be put to good use, to serve its intended purpose.
The Managing Director of Schlumberger Companies, Mr. Steve Fulgham, noted, “The Schlumberger Excellence in Educational Development (SEED) program is one of our global initiatives for secondary school students.
SEED is a voluntary-based program that connects students to the real world of science, through the internet.
While acknowledging how the SEED program works, and why it supported Bompeh Secondary School, the MD said the company was a leading and major service company in the oil industry, and that it employed over 84,000 people from more than 140 nations, working in approximately 80 countries.
In Ghana, he said, the company assisted in oil exploration, development and production of the oil fields, and currently had its operating base in Takoradi, and a corporate office in Accra, to support oilfield activities in Ghana.
