Church sets up charity fund for the poor

The Amakom Saint Paul’s Catholic Church in Kumasi has established a charity fund to support the poor and the needy in the church.

A total of GH¢15,000.00 had so far been mobilized through individual voluntary contributions.

Mr Anthony Fordjour, Chairman, said it would be used to set up those genuinely in need in small businesses.

He said members of the congregation who fall victim to disasters would also be assisted from it.

Mr Fordjour said the fund had so far supported 132 people with each beneficiary receiving GH¢100.00.

He encouraged the well-to-do in the church to contribute to the fund to help make life a bit comfortable for the poor and the needy.

He said as Christians they were enjoined by their faith to be generous to the sick and less privileged in society.

Mr Kofi Boamah-Bio, Vice Chairman of the Fund, said the church should not only seek the spiritual upliftment of the people, but must also be actively involved in efforts at meeting their physical needs as well.
