Priesthood is not money making activity – Evangelist

Dr David Leslie Hill, an international Evangelist, has said the priesthood should not be for money-making but rather a call to transform society and reconcile the people with God.

He said priesthood demands self-denial, self-discipline and the inner strength to resist temptations.

Dr Hill expressed worry that some Ministers of the Gospel were obsessed with money, which was creating problems for the church.

The Evangelist, who was addressing the Sixth Graduation ceremony of the Philippine Baptist Theological Seminary in Kumasi said “The priesthood has in recent times come under intense public criticism because of the involvement of some clergymen in all manner of social vices”.

Twenty-five students graduated with Master of Divinity, Master of Arts (MA) in Ministry, MA in Missiology, MA in Inter-cross Cultural Studies and Bachelor of Christian Education in Theology.

Dr Hill reminded the grandaunts that as priests they should be ready to endure pain and remain steadfast in their faith regardless of the circumstances in which they may find themselves to enable them to become worthy ambassadors of Christ.

Dr Louis Owusu Bempah, Director of the Seminary, said more than 100 students had so far graduated from the institution since its establishment in 2003.

He advised Ministers of the gospel to upgrade their knowledge to enable them to have better understanding of church doctrines to help them to win more souls for Christ.
