College of Agriculture Education, admits 677 students for Sandwich

The College of Agriculture Education, University of Education, Winneba at Asante-Mampong in the Ashanti Region has admitted 677 students for the 2009/2010 sandwich programme.

Out of the figure, 500 are males and 177 females.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw, made this known at the second matriculation ceremony of the programme at Asante-Mampong on Saturday.

The programme attracts practicing teachers who want to upgrade their skills during vacation.

The Vice-Chancellor said the university is aware of the numerous challenges the implementation of the new educational reforms has brought to bear on teachers and the urgent need for their skills to be upgraded.

Prof Asabere-Ameyaw said one area of concern to the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service is the timing of the sandwich programmes.

“We hope to go into discussion with our partners to arrive at a mutually agreeable time-frame,“ he said.

He said the university is committed to ensure that students maintain excellence in academic work to become competent in the future.

The Vice-Chancellor called on teachers to upgrade their skills to enable them to become efficient and effective to ensure that their students receive quality education.

Prof Asabere- Ameyaw advised the fresh students to be studious and avoid examination malpractices and also abide by the rules and regulations of the university.
