Globacom, the sixth mobile phone service provider to be licensed to do business in Ghana has given hints that suggests the company is aiming at starting operations in the country in the next three months.
The Group Chief Operating Officer of the company, Mohammed Jameel had told a press conference in Lagos last week that even if it takes three months, the company would start operations in Ghana.
“We are not worried and even if it takes three months, Ghana will go live. We want to get it right and do it right first time and we will,” he said.
Since Globacom was licensed in 2008 to start operations in Ghana, the coming has yet to launch its primary product in the mobile telephony sector, but it has spent and is still spending millions of dollars in sponsorships, advertising and promotions.
The company has also been complaining that it is not getting the required clearance and permits from regulatory authorities to mount its cell sites and masts.
Recently, the company complained about sabotage, following the destruction of its promotion and advertising structures, threatening to move out of the country.
Jameel however, emphasized at the press conference that, the company has invested so much in its Ghanaian operations and therefore, it is not ready to leave.
He also disclosed that the Glo 1 submarine cable will be commercially launched in August.
Efforts by ghanabusinessnews.com to reach Glo officials in Ghana for comment were unsuccessful as our phone calls were not responded to.
Meanwhile, Ghanaian mobile phone subscribers on the social networking site, Facebook who claim they are dissatisfied with the other five networks in the country are yearning for the arrival of Glo.
