Auditors urged to safeguard national purse from leakages
Mr Victor-Hermann Condobrey, the Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive, has urged public sector auditors to rise above reproach in the discharge of their duties to safeguard the national purse from financial leakages.
He therefore called for enhanced communication channels and collaboration between auditors and Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) for effective auditing.
Mr Condobrey was speaking at a Volta Regional Fun Games heralding the Centenary celebration of Audit Service at Hohoe under the theme “A Centenary of Public Sector Auditing: Defining New Frontiers.”
He said the government’s “Better Ghana” agenda would be a fluke without mainstreaming the professionalism of auditors who would ensure accountability, good governance processes and transparency.
Mr Condobrey appealed to the auditors to allow the centenary celebration to reflect in their output.
Mr Emmanuel Simpson, the Volta Regional Auditor, said the Service was redefining new frontiers in the discharge of its duties to include independency, resourcefulness and professionalism.
He expressed disappointment that finance officers in public institutions continued to flout laid down regulations and most of the times not ready with their books for auditing purposes.
Mr Simpson said this was an affront to financial administration and auditing.
