Tumfa wants more cocoa spraying gangs
The chiefs and people of Akyem Tumfa, has called for the an increase in the number of cocoa spraying gangs working in the area, to enable all cocoa farms to be adequately sprayed on time.
Ms Comfort Ofosuwa-Nyarku, an assembly member, made the appeal on behalf of the people, during a visit by the Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, to the community as part of his tour of the Atiwa District.
She explained that the area has a number of large cocoa farms and the only one cocoa spraying gang was not enough.
Ms Ofosuwa-Nyarku suggested that the area be given two cocoa spraying gangs to enable all the cocoa farms in the area to be sprayed on time.
She called for the rehabilitation of roads leading to the town, including the township roads.
Ms Ofosuwa-Nyarku also appealed for the rehabilitation of the Methodist School building, which was destroyed by a rainstorm and the extension of electricity to the new developing areas of the town.
Mr Ofosu-Ampofo expressed worry at the rate at which electricity cables in the region were being stolen.
He said the government was providing GH¢2,000 reward to people, who would give information that would lead to the arrest of those saboteurs.
Mr Ofosu-Ampofo advised the people to support the forth-coming population and housing census, to enable the government to get the necessary date for the planning of the development of the country.
On the forth-coming district assembly elections, he urged the people to put aside their political sympathies and vote for people who are easily accessible and could champion the development of their areas.
The Atiwa District Chief Executive, Mr Emmanuel Atta-Twum, informed the people that, the assembly had budgeted for the construction of a new market and a lorry park for the community next year.
Later the Regional minister inspected on-going projects at the Kwabeng Anglican Technical Senior High School (SHS) and the Akim Sekyere SHS.
At Akim Sekyere, the chief of the town, Barima Afinhyia the Second, called for the provision of dormitories, dinning hall, kitchen, staff bungalows and a vehicle for the Seventh Day Adventist Senior High School.
He said the Akim Sekyere town roads were awarded on contract sometime ago, but after destroying the bridges and culverts, the contractor abandoned the project.
Barima Afinhyia said, recently two people, in an attempt to cross one of the streams, fell into the water and died.
He said anytime it rains, the children in the area find it difficult to go to school, because they cannot cross the gutters and streams, especially where the culverts and bridges were destroyed.
