Need to commend FWSC for efforts towards implementation of new pay policy – Minister
Mr Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere, Deputy Minister of Employment and Social Welfare (MESW) has commended the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) for bringing groups under the Public Service Joint Standing Negotiating Committee (PSJSNC) for fruitful negotiations on the new pay policy.
He noted that having separate negotiations with individual labour unions, associations and institutions would lead to further distortions and inequities in the public service pay administration which the new pay policy sought to address.
Mr. Sekyere made the commendation at a press conference on current issues confronting the labour front in Accra on Friday.
“Unions and associations should be encouraged to come together to negotiate with government to save time and cost”, he added.
He pointed out that the Ministry, recognised the right of labour unions, associations and institutions to collective bargaining negotiation under the Labour Act, and therefore would not interfere in the negotiating rights of labour unions, associations and institutions.
The Deputy Minister observed that some individuals and groups had decided to peddle false and fictitious documents concerning the salary structure, and noted that there were attempts to frustrate implementation of the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) and incite the public against the new pay policy.
He announced that the Ministry would soon set up an investigative team to unravel the source of these false publications.
