Government urged to be proactive on same sex relationships

Reverend Dr Stephen Kwabena Asante, President of the Ghana Baptist Convention (GBC), has expressed the Church’s strong opposition to same sex marriages and urged government to act boldly to stop this from happening in the country.

The Baptist Convention is totally against the same gay and lesbianism. “We completely frown upon it.”

He said calls by sections of the Ghanaian society for recognition of homosexuals must be rejected to save the nation from incurring the wrath of God.

Rev. Dr Asante was addressing the opening session of the 47th Annual Conference of the Church at its Retreat Centre at Ejura.

He vowed that the Church would do everything it could to fight the evil of homosexuality and prevent it from becoming a canker.

He encouraged all Christians to join hands for the shared goal of purging both the Church and society of ungodly acts and other vices.

He congratulated government for the success in curbing the violent crime of robbery and said the same zeal must be used to tackle problem of homosexuality.

Rev. Nii Amoo Darku, Member of the Council of State, asked the Church to support government to deliver on its development agenda.

He said there was the need for more public understanding and patience as government puts in place the right interventions and policies to make life better for all Ghanaians.

Rev. Dr Isaac A. Mills-Owoo, Senior Pastor of the Redemption Baptist Church, Cape Coast, encouraged members of the Church to reach out to people especially in rural communities.
