China awards scholarships to 20 Ghanaians
The Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Gong Jianzhong, said on Thursday that China would continue to support the Ghana Government in its effort to produce human resources capable of meeting the challenges of Global technological advancement.
He said this in Accra at a farewell reception for 20 Ghanaian students who have been awarded with Chinese Government scholarships, for the 2010/2011 academic year to pursue undergraduate and graduate courses in selected Universities in China.
The occasion coincided with a well attended welcome reception held for Ambassador Gong Jianzhong who had earlier presented his letter of credence to President John Atta Mills at the Castle Osu in Accra.
He emphasised that the fact that Chinese government has continued to provide scholarships, training courses and other forms of assistance to Ghana underscores the importance his country attaches to the bond of friendship between Ghana and the Poeple’s Republic of China.
He urged the beneficiary students to focus on their studies while in China so that the purpose for which they were awarded the scholarship could be realised.
He was hopeful that the prospective graduates and the postgraduate students would return to Ghana on successful completion of their programmes and help to build a “better Ghana.”
Mr Emmanuel Abrokwah, one of the awardees on behalf of his colleagues thanked the Chinese Government for awarding them the scholarships, and pledged the awardees’ commitment to abide by the laws and traditions of the Chinese people.
