China to support Rural Poverty Alleviation and Community Driven Projects in Ghana

The government of China has expressed her willingness to support Ghana in Rural Poverty Alleviation and Community Driven Development Projects.

The District Chief for Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District Assembly, Mrs Georgina Nkrumah Aboah said these at the fourth session of the fifth Assembly of the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa district at Breman Asikuma.

She said consequently a five-Member Chinese Delegation paid a three-day formalization, Prioritization and fact-finding visit to the Area from 6th to 8th August 2010.

Under the Rural Community Poverty Alleviation Pilot Project (RUCPAP), the Government of Ghana submitted six proposals from Town/Area Council to the Government of China and out of this Breman North Area Council was selected.

The DCE said the projects, which are the first of its kind in Ghana to be undertaken by the Government of China, shall be launched in Accra on September 27, 2010.

She hoped that when the Programme finally takes off, the people of Breman North Area Council would continue to demonstrate the zeal which was magnificently displayed, during the familiarization visit of the Chinese delegation.

Meanwhile, the executive Committee of the Assembly has recommended to the General Assembly for the invitation of the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) to establish the facts surrounding the chilli Pepper Project after the internal Auditor had submitted his final report to the committee.

The Committee also recommended that by the end of September, 2010, the District Assembly should take measure against all old executive of the Town and Area council who still refused to hand-over to the new executives.
