Nigerian man jailed in Ghana for importing cocaine

A Nigerian, Onweka Eke, who expelled 85 pellets of cocaine, was on Wednesday sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment by an Accra Fast Track High Court.

Eke, 39, pleaded guilty to the charges of importing narcotic drugs without authority and possessing narcotic drugs without lawful excuse.

The court presided over by Mr Justice Charles Quist, therefore, convicted him accordingly.

The case of prosecution was that on May 4, the convict arrived from Sao Paulo, Brazil, on a South African Airline flight.

While going through routine checks, operatives of the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) suspected him of carrying drugs and put him under surveillance.

The prosecution said within 24 hours, Eke expelled 85 pellets of whitish substance suspected to be cocaine.

During questioning, Eke told the NACOB operatives that another Nigerian gave the substance to him to be given to somebody in Ghana for a fee of 2,500 dollars.

When the drugs were forwarded to the Ghana Standards Board they tested positive for cocaine.
