Three persons are in the grip of the Northern Regional Police Command for murdering a 22-year-old businessman, Dauda Adams, who went to a “galamsey” site near Bole to purchase some gold.
He was killed in the bush and the body left to decompose till the police found it. His money and gold were stolen by the culprits.
The three, Yakubu Ali, 19; Kofi Amakye, 24 and Yahaya Ali, 15, were arrested by the Bole Police and handed over to the Regional Police Command.
Chief Inspector Ebenezer Tetteh, Public Relations Officer of the Northern Regional Police Command, who briefed the Ghana News Agency in Tamale on Monday, said the three would be arraigned before court soon.
Meanwhile, one Ernest, the ring leader of the group is at large.
He said the wife of the deceased reported to the police that she saw the husband with Yahaya Ali till his disappearance.
Chief Inspector Tetteh said the police then arrested Ali and during interrogation he mentioned the other accomplices and further revealed that he (Yahaya Ali) lured the deceased on September 29 to a location, a kilometer away from the galamsey site in the Bole District.
He said Yahaya Ali, a Junior High School (JHS) student lied to the deceased that they deal in gold and wanted to sell some to him.
He said on getting to the location, Yakubu Ali, shot the deceased with a locally manufactured gun believed to have been supplied by Kofi Amakye.
Chief Inspector Tetteh said Kofi Amakye also played the role of a ‘juju man’ who performed rituals to exorcise the spirit of the deceased from haunting them.
He said Yakubu Ali had GH¢1,700, Kofi Amakye GH¢800 while Yahaya Ali had GH¢600 with the rest of the money which is not yet known going to Ernest.
Chief Inspector Tetteh said Yakubu Ali used his part of the booty to buy a motor bike; Kofi Amakye bought cement and roofing materials to complete his building project and Yahaya Ali bought bicycle, a mobile phone and some items for school.
