MR MAJOR VANDERPUIJE PLEASE BE SMART AND READ BETWEEN THE LINES. THIS IS A CLEAR CASE OF ELECTRONIC WASTE DUMPING. NIGERIA IS ON THE HEALS OF SO CALLED NGOS SHIPPING REFURBISHED COMPUTERS TO AFRICA. THESE NEAR END OF LIFE COMPUTERS WILL SOON END UP AS THRASH IN GHANA. A WORD TO THE WISE IS ENOUGH. WE SHALL BE MONITORING THE SITUATION WITH REGARDS TO THE OVER 5,000 REFURBISHED COMPUTERS THAT DIGITAL DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION INTENDS DUMPING IN GHANA IN THE NAME OF DONATIONS AND BRIDGING THE DIGITAL DIVIDE. HERE IN THE US THERE ARE EFFORTS TO RID THE CITIES OF OBSOLETE COMPUTERS AND THE LATEST TRICK IS TO SHIP THEM TO AFRICA AS REFURBISHED WORKING COMPUTERS BUT IN REALITY THEY ARE GARBAGE.
Sir, I applaud your concern. If we were as concerned as you are, ten years ago, we would not have the mess, we have today. As Co-founder and CEO, of the Digital Development Corporation, we created the organization to bridge the digital divide. We are very serious in our efforts to do what we do, in accordance with our mission statement. Founded in 2004, it was in 2006 that we met with and was formerly introduced to Basel Action Network (BAN, http://www.ban.org ). We are in agreement with the purpose of BAN and take all of the DDC programs very seriously. I urge you to visit our website, youtube page and facebook page. I welcome you and others to join our efforts to bridge the digital divide, in your home town. The computers, that we plan on sending are four to ten months old, completely refurbished with the most recent, updated, software, flat panel monitors and wireless. I assure you and others, that as a non-for-profit, organization, we take this project seriously. Feel free to email me, anytime, with any questions that you may have.
