Minister asks Koforidua Polytechnic to conduct research into bio-fuel

The Engineering Department of the Koforidua Polytechnic, has been called upon to conduct research into the conversion of cow dung and human waste into bio-fuel, to help reduce the pressure on the forest for energy supply.

Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, Eastern Regional Minister, who made the call on Tuesday, said such an intervention would save the forest from depletion.

Mr Ofosu-Ampofo was speaking at meeting with Professor Reynolds Okai, new Rector of the polytechnic and Management of the school in his office in Koforidua.

He tasked the polytechnic to fast track the introduction of courses in Civil Engineering to produce graduates who would assist the Municipal and District Assemblies with their expertise.

Mr Ofosu-Ampofo noted that shoddy works being done by some contractors in the region was due to the lack of civil engineers.

Prof Okai announced plans by the polytechnic to organise training programmes for small-scale industries to keep them abreast of modern technological innovations.

He said the objective of the academic facility was to create jobs and not to rely on the government to provide employment for its products.

Prof Okai gave the assurance that within the next four years, management would transform the polytechnic into an institution of excellence.
