Ghanaians urged to participate in the District Assemblies Election

Miss Georgina Yeboah, the Gomoa West District Director of National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has appealed to Ghanaians to vote in the District Assembly Election on December 28 to elect people who could articulate their problems and needs.

Miss Yeboah, who spoke to the GNA in an interview, deplored the apathetic attitude of the electorate towards District Assembly Elections and said this should stop.

She said the electorate should attach to district assembly elections the importance they attach to parliamentary and presidential elections.

Miss Yeboah said since Ghana had decided to adopt democratic system of governance, there was no way citizens could do away with elections.

“Elections have come to stay with us and we must see elections as the gateway to democracy”.

She said if some people decided not to vote others would vote and impose a non-performer on those who decided not to vote and this could derail their development.

Miss Yeboah said to make the decentralization policy work effectively the electorate must elect knowledgeable people to the district assemblies to plan for the development of the area.

She appealed to the aspirants to conduct clean campaigns devoid of the influence of the political parties because the concept did not allow partisanship.
