Ghana AIDS Commission to set up Technical Support Units countrywide
Dr (Mrs) Angela El-Adas, Director-General of the Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC) has hinted that the Commission will from next year, set up Technical Support Units in all regions and districts in the
country.
This, she said, would “facilitate effective monitoring and evaluation and enhance the Commission’s decentralization efforts”.
“This strategic move will further strengthen coordination and management of the decentralized response and facilitate the identification and provision of technical assistance in areas of need in the regions and districts,” Dr El-Adas said.
Dr El-Adas said this in a speech read on her behalf by Mr Kenneth Yeboah, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer of GAC, at a ceremony to present 18 computers and accessories to the Volta Regional Coordinating Council for onward distribution to the various Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs)
in Ho.
The computers and accessories donated with funding from the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA), estimated at GH¢21,600 are to help the MDAs to manage HIV/AIDS data in their areas through the Country Response Information System (CRIS), software designed by UNAIDS for countries to collect and manage national response monitoring and evaluation data.
The Director-General expressed the hoped that the computers would be used to help in the HIV/AIDS data management and also facilitate timely reporting to the Commission.
“There is the need for stronger monitoring and evaluation system to help measure the success or otherwise of the national response,” she added.
Mr Joseph Amenowode, Volta Regional Minister, receiving the computers, assured of the proper care and maintenance of the equipments.
He also urged the MDAs and focal persons to use the items for the intended purposes.
