Education is the tool for the oil industry – Mrs Obeng
Mrs Emma Obeng, Ledzokuku Circuit Supervisor of Ghana Education Service (GES) has observed that education was the basic tool that could help the country achieve the highest development in the emerging oil and gas industry.
She said a nation that had a large percentage of its citizenry in the higher educational bracket made major strides in socio-economic development, which reflected in the general well-being of the people.
Mrs Obeng made the observation at the third speech and prize giving day of Apostolic Zion Preparatory and Junior High School at Teshie in Accra on Friday.
She asked teachers to use teaching and learning materials to transfer knowledge to their students, while parents should provide their children with their needs to enable them concentrate on their studies.
Mrs Obeng urged parents to pay regular visits to their children in school to assess their performance and discuss any problem affecting their children’s educational pursuit.
Mr Godwin Monyo, Proprietor of the school, said the academic facility was established to develop the human resource base worthy of taking up the leadership mantle of the country.
“This we intend to achieve through disciplining our pupils to uphold moral and cultural values of the society, and inculcate in them the spirit of patriotism,” he added.
Mr Monyo said the first batch of students who wrote the 2010 BECE scored 100 per cent.
He said some challenges facing the school included lack of computers, science laboratory and equipment.
