World Vision supports health insurance scheme at Jema

World Vision International (WVI), a non-governmental organisation (NGO), is promoting the growth of Kintampo South District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme with the payment of the premium for some selected pupils in the district.

The NGO started the package last year to help the number of parents in the area who could not register their children under the scheme.

Mr Samuel Aboagye Korsah, Public Relations Officer of the scheme told the Ghana News Agency at Jema that about 1,600 children had benefited from the NGO’s support package.

He said WVI had paid GH¢8,000 to the scheme this year to cover the premium of the beneficiaries who have been provided with national identification cards.

Mr Korsah noted that poverty was a major problem of the people who are mainly farmers and this had made a number of them unable to join the scheme.

He said the management of the scheme would liaise with the District Assembly for the launch an endowment fund towards the registration of the poor and needy persons in the area.

Mr Korsah said management of the scheme had initiated an action plan to enhance the enrolment drive by visiting churches, mosques and market places.

The scheme has also been training its staff and field workers to ensure good customer-care for clients of the scheme.
