Information sharing crucial in crime control- Police
Mr Patrick Timbillah, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, has renewed his appeal to the public to volunteer information that will lead to the arrest of criminals in the society.
He said it was important for people to accept responsibility in the fight to bring down crime.
Mr Timbillah made the appeal when he interacted with final year students of the Department of Publishing Studies, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on Monday.
He said although the police were determined and ready to carry the fight to the criminals, they needed the co-operation and support of the people to achieve the needed success.
The Regional Police Commander said there was the essence for the public to be security alert and to report any suspicious looking person to the security agencies.
He called on civil society organisations to be impartial in condemning violent physical attacks on police personnel.
Mr Timbillah, responding to a question, debunked the notion that the Ghana Police Service was the dumping grounds for “non-intelligent and school drop outs”, saying, police recruits are “very good materials with very good grades from various educational institutions”.
Mr Ralph Nyadu-Addo, Business Development Officer of KNUST, said the interaction was part of a mentoring programme, initiated by the university.
He underlined the need for closer collaboration between academia and industry to help train the needed manpower resources for the nation’s development.
