We lost to an experienced team – Extinguishers coach
Emmanuel Ahadzi, head coach of Extinguishers of Ghana has cited inexperience as the reason for the team’s inability to land the ultimate at the 22nd Africa Cup of Clubs Championship which ended at the National Hockey stadium in Accra on Saturday.
Extinguishers lost 2-3 to Heartland of Nigeria in the final of the ladies event on Saturday, and Ahadzi rates the Nigerians above his team on the experience ladder.
“Heartland had more experienced players, more hitters and they did a lot of running.”
The head coach also mentioned pressure from the home crowd as a negative influence in the output of his players.
“The girls were under pressure. Heartland were the defending champions and were playing away from home. They played according to my instructions but the result never came.
“This is the second time we have lost to them in the final and I am highly disappointed.”
Ahadzi lauded the come-back fighting spirit of the Nigerians, which he labeled as their strength.
“We took the lead and they equalized. Their attackers were very fast and it helped their play.”
The veteran trainer is hopeful that his charges can land the title in future competitions.
