Driveco Ghana outdoors 45 taxi cabs for members

Driveco Ghana, a transport company, on Wednesday unveiled 45 Suzuki Maruti taxis to boost transportation in the Greater Accra Region.

Mr Wilberforce Esuman, Chief Executive Officer of Driveco Ghana, said the company had negotiated with the drivers so that they could pay for the vehicles by instalments.

He said Driveco had also put in place a retirement package for its drivers so that they would not have to face financial hardships while on pension.

“Many drivers in the country die out of poverty after retirement due to lack of proper retirement arrangements for them. Driveco will ensure an end to that,” he said.

He added that Driveco would also institute “Drivers’ Day” when hard working drivers would be honoured at the end of every year.

ASP Alexander Obeng, Head of Education Unit, Motor Traffic and Transport Unit of the Police Service, cited speeding, drunk driving, intolerance on the part of some drivers and defective eyesight as some of the causes of road accidents.

He called for the creation of speed rumps, more roundabouts and the installation of additional street lights on the Mallam-Kasoa Highway to limit the high rate of accidents that occur on the road.
