Ghanaians must be thankful and appreciative-Nduom
The 2008 presidential candidate of the People’s Conventions Party (CPP), Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, has appealed to Ghanaians to draw lessons from the Cote d’Ivoire election crisis and be thankful to God and appreciate their country.
He said the quick intervention by religious leaders, traditional rulers and other people in key positions anytime there was looming crisis was an indication that the Ghanaian society was blessed and therefore the citizens must cherish what they have and guard it.
Dr. Nduom was interacting with the press after feting more than a 1,000 children from the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem municipality at the Coconut Grove Hotel at Elmina during the Christmas holiday.
He said the country was endowed with a lot of potentials which when fully harnessed and well managed could change the fortunes of its people but pointed out that some politicians whose attitudes needed much to be desired must be named and advised in the interest of the nation’s growth.
He also urged all, particularly those in key positions and that citizenry at large, to play their parts well to bring about accelerated development.
On the decentralization process, he re-echoed calls for the election of district chief executives to help ensure greater grass root participation in local governance.
Dr. Nduom appealed to the fishing community in Elmina to strive to maintain the peace and added that together with his collaborators which include the Coconut Grove Hotel, the First National Bank and Gold Coast Securities Limited will continue to sponsor needy but brilliant children from the area.
A children’s library will be constructed next year at Elmina and scholarship scheme to finance the education of some selected pupils through to the university level will also be instituted.
