Nkrumaists to hold unity forum in Sunyani
Nkrumah Rising, an organisation that seeks to unite the Convention People’s Party (CPP) and Peoples’ National Convention, will hold a forum in Sunyani on Saturday, January 8 to discuss the unity of the two parties.
The forum aims at assessing the views of Nkrumaists at the grassroots on a united front to contest the next general election.
This was contained in statement issued by the organisation in Sunyani by Nana Kwasi Kyeremeh, Brong Ahafo Regional Chairman of PNC and Mr Mike Ofori, Regional Vice Chairman of CPP.
It said an assessment tour by Nkrumah Rising “revealed overwhelming and enthusiastic support for unification before the 2012 general election”.
The statement said the forum had been widely endorsed by the grassroots to give them the chance to publicly declare to the whole nation their position on the issue of unification.
The forum will be a joint session of the PNC and CPP regional and constituency executives, as well as leading figures of the Nkrumaist fraternity in the area.
The statement said Samia Nkrumah, Member of Parliament for Jomoro was expected to attend and deliver the keynote address.
The goal of Nkrumah Rising is to create sufficient internal pressure at the grassroots within the two parties to facilitate unification.
“The association believes that any meaningful and ultimate successful attempt in efforts to achieve unity must involve the effective participation of the grassroots and has since 2009 been moving across parts of the country to awaken the grassroots,” the statement said.
