Sekondi-Takoradi Metro receives funds for development

The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) has initiated programmes to support its urban management programme to raise the socio-economic image of the twin-city.

A project christened: Ghana Urban Management Pilot Programme (GUMP) of which the STMA is a beneficiary has been allocated five million Euros for upgrading the infrastructure in the metropolis.

The Metropolitan Chief Executive, Mr Kobina Anna Prah, said at a press conference that as a result of the programme, the assembly intended to build a transit terminal for haulage trucks.

It will upgrade the city centres of the twin-city, improve the infrastructure within the Kokompe industrial enclave and the Integrated Social Centre at Effiakuma.

He said under the assembly’s urban management programme, new projects such as the re-development of the Central Business District of Takoradi and construction of new shopping mall at Tanokrom would be completed.

“The assembly intends to develop a master plan to address or correct existing conditions that impede sustainable urban development”, he said.

Mr Prah said other projects that had been awarded on contract include the Essei Bridge at Sekondi, the landscaping of the Sekondi and a New Takoradi sea defence wall.
