Need for integrated efforts to solve road transport issues

Mr Martin Afram, Deputy Managing Director of Metro Mass Transit Company (MMT), has called for an integrated effort by stakeholders, to solve problems affecting the transport industry.

“Instead of petty bickering by competitors, concrete strategies should be found to confront and facilitate the movement of people,” he added.

Mr Afram made the call when addressing the closing session of a five-day Conference on Legal Issues organised by the Management of MMT in Kumasi.

It was on the theme “The High Spate of Road Traffic Crashes and Efficient Motor Claims Management”.

A statement issued in Accra by Mr E. Boadi-Misa, Head of Communications, MMT said Mr Afram pin-pointed peri-urban, intra, and inter-city movement of passengers.

He pointed out that MMT’s presence in the 10 Regions gave credence to the need to provide Ghanaians with a reliable, safe and affordable means of transport.

Mr Afram spoke about policy interventions adopted by the management to curtail crashes, remove revenue leakages, a Reward Scheme for Staff and the Operation Show Your Ticket Promotion.

He expressed the hope that, management’s increase of fleet by 150 this year, would help improve the transport situation in the country.

Mr Afram announced that management had not increased fares therefore passengers should pay the old fares.
