Accreditation Board asked to maintain standards

Mr Gibrine Adam, Chairman of the EPP Book Services, has appealed to the Ministry of Education, the National Accreditation Board and all other bodies that regulate tertiary institutions to strive to maintain standards.

Mr Adam, also President of Zenith University College, said this in an address read for him at the opening of the Third Biennial conference of the Home Economics Researchers Association of Ghana at University of Education, Winneba, on Wednesday.

The four-day conference is under the theme “fostering entrepreneurial mind set through education”.

Members of the Association in Ghana and some representatives from their sister Association in Nigeria are attending.

Mr Adam said the increase in the number of tertiary institutions had created avenues for many young qualified candidates who desire to acquire higher education.

“The worry however is the lack of regulation that finally leads to fallen standard and this situation is a great source of worry for many industry watchers,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw, said in an address read for him that there was the need for universities to develop innovative entrepreneurship activities among students in order to cultivate skilled opportunity-oriented entrepreneurs.

Dr (Mrs) Adelina Effie Arkhurst, President of HERAG, said entrepreneurial training could be effective in alleviating graduate unemployment by equipping graduates with entrepreneurial skills.
