Coach Addo defends tactics for CHAN opener

Herbert Addo, head coach of the local Black Stars has defended his tactical formation adopted in their opening match which they lost 1-2 to South Africa last Saturday in Wad Madany, Sudan.

The veteran trainer opted for an attacking game plan against his usual tight game, generating a lot of questions about the placement and role of some players in his tactical plan.

Coach Addo however told GNA Sports in Wad Medany on Monday that there was nothing wrong with the tactics insisting that the players are familiar with the roles assigned them during the match.

On Bismark Idan who played wide, the Aduana Stars trainer observed that he was an attacking midfielder, who usually draws back and moves with the ball into the attack of the opponents.

He added that Emmanuel Clottey was also better placed in his attacking role just as Gilbert Fiamenyo’s role was clearly defined, adding that “It was just unfortunate that they failed to score.”

The one-time Black Stars coach said he is plotting for their next opponents, Zimbabwe after watching them play against Niger, whilst opting for silence in a change in his tactical plan.

“We have seen Zimbabwe play and we worked on our lapses. We will work out a strategy to handle them on Wednesday.”

The Stars need nothing short of victory against the Zimbabweans to remain in contention for a place at the next round.

Ghana lost 0-2 to DR Congo in the final of the maiden edition of the CHAN held in 2009 in Cote d’Ivoire.
