Blitz “the Ambassador”, the Ghanaian-born rapper has given the acclaimed originator of hip-life in Ghana, Reggie Rockstone thumps up for setting the pace for rap music in Ghana.
Speaking to a news website ‘nj.com’, Blitz, 28, who has spent most of his life in Brooklyn (US) said hi-life, the traditional form of popular music, was being influenced by American sounds and growing tougher, noisier and closer to hip-hop.
Blitz was quoted by the website as saying, “Reggie Rockstone was our ‘Kool Herc’, our pioneer,” adding, ” he took traditional highlife records from the ’60s and ’70s and added breakbeats to them”.
“Artistes started rapping in native languages. That’s grown into its own business, its own fashion, and its own style: hiplife”, he said.
