Fire guts fourth floor of EPA’s building

Fire on Tuesday afternoon gutted furniture and few items in one of the rooms on the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) fourth-floor building in Accra, sending scores of the staff running for safety outside the edifice.

The cause of the fire as of the time the Ghana News Agency team visited the premises of EPA at 1530 hours in Accra was unknown.

It took combined efforts of janitors and other workers of EPA, to use fire extinguishers to quench the flame before personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service arrived at the scene.

Mr Kanazoe, a worker in an attempt to quench the fire, broke one of the louvre blades in the room with his fist and bled in the process.

Some of the workers were seen with their lap-top bags strapped around their shoulders, whiles others were clench-fisted and visibly traumatised praying the extent of the damage would not be enormous.

Mrs Angeline Mensah, Public Relations Officer of the EPA told the GNA that management was appreciative of the able manner in which the workers quenched the fire before the fire personnel arrived.

“We are waiting for the fire audit report,” she said.
