NPA conducts studies into kerosene distribution

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) is conducting studies to identify the challenges that the distribution network and system for Kerosine is encountering, a Deputy Minister of Energy, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini told Parliament yesterday February 9, 2011.

He said the ministry would leverage on the NPA’s finding and also assess the performance of the previous interventions and improve upon them to ensure smooth distribution of the commodity nationwide, particularly in the rural areas.

Alhaji Fuseini was responding to a question by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Asuruifo South, Mr George Yaw Boakye, who wanted to know why there was a shortage of kerosine in the country, especially in the rural areas and what plans the ministry had to solve the problem.

He opined that even though the country should not be experiencing shortage of the commodity, the deplorable condition of some of the roads in the country, posed challenges to accessibility to the rural areas.

Alhaji Fuseini said torrential rains and flooding that the country witnessed last year militated against the distribution of kerosine to a lot of rural areas.
