Fears, tears, and raw talents at Vodafone Icons audition
When the projector beamed onto the screen to show the video recordings of the regional auditioning for Vodafone’s reality TV music show, Icons – Divas Edition to invited guests in Accra, most of the girls who lined up at the auditioning appeared obviously naive as indeed, some truly can’t sing but believed they could make it to the top. There were others with great voices and talent, but had no idea what they possessed.
Some stood before the judges, probably for a first time experience of auditioning for a major competition that has GH¢20,000, a recording contract and hopefully a high flying future career in music at stake, terrified and unnerved. In their helplessness, they let the tears flow.
But there were others who surprised themselves, as they struggled to sing – their strong and melodious voices mesmerized the judges whose eyes bulged with wonder, voiced their approval and encouraged the young talents. Some of the contestants overjoyed by the judges’ approval, also cried and let the tears freely flow down their cheeks.
Come Sunday February 13, 2011 at 8:00pm, the series will begin showing on about six TV stations in the country.
According to Carmen Bruce-Annan, Head of Corporate Communications, Vodafone Ghana the concept behind the show is to discover, groom and to showcase to Ghanaians young women with talent in music.
“It’s a reality show that Ghanaians have been waiting for and we have spared no expenses to ensure that it’s of the highest standard. We want Ghanaians to tune in and help choose Ghana’s big thing”, she said.
She said the winning group will be groomed into a world class music group to represent Ghana at the world stage.
35 ladies aged between 18 and 30 years have been chosen from auditions held across the country, they will be put into groups of three and they will compete for the grand prize at Vodafone’s annual music concert, ‘020 Live’.
