Good road infrastructure, key to government’s development agenda – Gidisu
Mr Joe Gidisu, Minister of Roads and Highways, says the government views provision of good road infrastructure as key to the rapid socio-economic development of the country and as a right to be accessed by all Ghanaians.
According to him, the Government had selected some key roads in the country for development to the highest standards in the short to medium term.
Mr Gidisu said this in a speech read on his behalf at the commencement of Survey/Engineering Works on the Adomi Bridge at Atimpoku in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region on Wednesday.
He mentioned one of the road sections which had been selected for development as the Asutuare junction-Asutuare-Volivo-Asikuma road with support from the Japanese Government.
Mr Gidisu said the project involved the rehabilitation of the Asutuare junction-Asutuare-Volivo road, construction of a bridge over the Volta River at Volivo and development of a road from Volivo to Asikuma junction.
He said that road project when completed would provide Ghanaians with an alternative access over the Volta River downstream of Adomi and also open up areas bordering those roads for rapid socio-economic development.
Mr Gidisu announced that the Government had programmed to develop the Asutuare to Aveyime road and the Juapong to Adidome road.
“The necessary arrangements for procurement of consultancy services for development of these roads are being done by the Ghana Highway Authority and it is anticipated that by the middle of the year, the consultancy services for development of these roads should commence”.
He was optimistic that the completion of those projects would greatly improve the socio-economic conditions of the communities in the influence areas.
