Three in court for mining in forest reserve
A Takoradi Circuit Court on Friday remanded Albert Cobbinah, Mustapha Nkrumah and Philip Awortwe for mining illegally in the Neug South Forest Reserve at Tarkwa Nsuaem in the Western Region.
Their pleas were not taken and they would re-appear on February 25.
Inspector Theophilus Kwame Agbemordzi told the court presided over by Mr Charles Nimako that on January 26, a combined team of the Military, Police and officials of the Regional Forestry Commission organized an operation following a report of an illegal mining activities being taken place at the reserve.
He added that upon arrival, the team found the accused persons mining on a large portion of the forest reserves prospecting for gold.
Inspector Agbemordzi said the complainant in the case is Mr Samuel Nyantakyi, District Forestry Manager.
