Only one death recorded during Budumburam riots – Police
The Police Administration on Monday said only one person died during the police operations to quell the disturbance at the Gomoa Budumburam Camp on February 13.
It said four people did not lose their lives as published by some media houses.
A statement signed by Superintendent Kwesi Ofori, Director of Public Affairs in Accra said information available to the Police indicated that a bus was involved in an accident in which three people died, which he described as an isolation situation.
“In as much as the one death that occurred is unfortunate, Police presence at Budumburam helped to de-escalate the volatile situation and ensured normalcy in the area. Police will continue to patrol the area until there is absolute peace at Budumburam,” it said.
The statement said there is an age-long cordial relation between Ghana and Liberia, and the Police would not do anything to mar it.
“The Police want to use this opportunity to tell our friends in Liberia to disregard the scary stories being peddled as they are untrue.”
“However, we would want to assure the public that we will continue to provide security and maintain law and order at all times in line with our constitutional mandate,” the statement added.
