Leadership of road transport operators calls off intended strike action
The Leadership of Road Transport Operators has called off the intended strike to protest against the ban on night movement of heavy trucks indefinitely.
The action was the result of a meeting held between Mr Collins Dauda, Minister of Transport and representatives of the leadership at the Tema Port last weekend to suspend enforcement of the ban.
A release issued in Accra on Monday and jointly signed by Mr Matthew Hayford and Bashir Mouaus, on behalf of the operators said, “The enforcement of the law on the night movement of the Heavy Goods Carrying Vehicles has been suspended until further notice.”
However, the leadership advised Truckers to ensure that their vehicles were roadworthy to minimise the constant breakdowns of the vehicles on the road to make them safer.
“All road transport operators are being called upon to ensure the safety of all road users by observing and complying with road traffic regulations,” the release said.
It advised road users to exercise extreme care to reduce road carnage.
The release advised all road transport operators to intensify the education of their members on the usage of the road and instil in them the need to comply with road usage rules to protect life and property.
