US Embassy in Ghana announces new visa appointment service
The US Embassy in Accra, Ghana is introducing a new non-immigrant (visitor) visa appoint service come March 1, 2011.
The Embassy in a press release copied to ghanabusinessnews.com says as of March 1, 2011 all non-immigrant visa applicants must schedule appointments through the US Visa Information Service at www.ustraveldocs.com or by calling 233-263011685.
The Embassy advices applicants to follow the steps outlined below:
Step 1: Pay the visa application fee at any Ecobank branch.
Step 2: Complete the online nonimmigrant visa application form (CEAC/DS-160).
Step 3: Schedule a visa interview appointment at www.ustraveldocs.com or by calling or 233-263011685. Three pieces of information will be required to schedule an appointment:
* passport number
* MRV fee payment receipt
* The ten (10) digit barcode number from your DS-160 confirmation page
Step 4: Visit the U.S. Embassy in Accra on the date and time of the visa interview. Applicants will need to bring a printed copy of the appointment letter, the DS-160 confirmation page, one recent visa photograph, current and all old passports, and the original visa fee payment receipt. Applications without all of these items will not be accepted.
Step 5: Applicants will collect issued visas in person at the U.S. Embassy in Accra.
Applicants who have already scheduled visa appointments, the Embassy says, will not be impacted by this change.
“Those who have already scheduled an appointment through the current online system should bring their Standard Chartered receipt and proceed via the current process. Applicants who have paid their MRV fee prior to March 1, 2011, but have not scheduled an appointment, will have a grace period from March 1, 2011 until April 30, 2011 to use their MRV fee for appointment scheduling,” it says.
The Embassy adds that anyone with an MRV receipt obtained prior to March 1 will have to pay the MRV fee again if they have not scheduled an appointment before April 30, 2011.

The US embassy has done very well for introducing these new measures, i hope this will go a long way to help Ghanaians who apply for non-immigrant visas.
So, will this affect Dv applicants as well?
After I paid for my visa fees, I could not get an appointment and bcos I was only travelling for a workshop I lost my money. I think it is not fair, people should at least be given an option to have a date and then refusal
It is very difficult booking an appointment with the new system. A second look should be taken at the the booking of appointments.
On 27 of may i received an email from the dv that i’have won a green card and i should send the money to some address in the uk cliaming to be a us embassy agent. I want to know if the embassy in ghana know any thing about this email.
This is absolutely nonsense, this people are really cheating ghanaians and the ghana government should step in or should intervine. Even ghanaians who have permanent stay in US can’t have their family visiting and if can have to wait for years, and those so call US neutralized citizenseven have to wait overs years to have their spouses come over. The same people who are doing this to ghanaians preach about family values and still denied family from their love ones or have to wait over 5years before you can see a love one. This is the only country that makes its nuetralized citizens and permanent residents go through this bizzard, rediculous process. I hope they will realized what they doing to other people and their family and change course becourse it does not reflect Americans values. People can’t schedule appointment and their contacts are non reachable and if reachable can’t get real people to talk to. I wants to know is it becourse ghana is a third world country.
I agree with you a hunded percent ‘Mmoa’, same thing happened to me. Paid the money and not even getting a date. So frustrating!!
the government of Ghana should look at what the so call american to those who apply for non immigrant visa, they deny people for no reason. i went and i witness they dont even take thier time look at your doccument they just deny you for no reason and we are paying for the servise. i think the government should look at it. if they are not ready to give people visa, there is no sense for them to be in Ghana. since what they doing is unfair.
is it true if you miss your appointment under this new system, u’d have to pay for another application form at Ecobank before you can schedule another appointment date?
pls let me know.
I HAVE PROBLEM WITH THE FACT THAT PEOPLE ARE REFUSED VISA BUT ARE NOT MADE TO KNOW WHY THEY WERE REFUSED AND JUST GIVING THAT SLIP WITH SECTION 214.PLEASE THE APPLICATION PROCESS IS VERY FRUSTRATING AND THERE SHOULD BE SOME CONCIDERATIONS AND FLEXIBILITY SUCH AS REFUSING PEOPLE ON GENUINE REASONS AND STANDARDS BUT NOT SOMEBODIES PSYCHOLOGICAL PERCEPTIONS WHICH COULD INFLUENCE VISA RESULTS ACCORDING TO THE CONSULARS MOOD AND INTEREST.GOD BLESS GHANA,GOD BLESS U.S.A
AS I SAID BEFORE I WISH TO SUGGEST TAHT THE CRITERIA TO GET A VISA IS WELL SPELT OUT FOR PEOPLE TO ABLE TO PREDICT WHETHER OR NOT THEY WILL ACQUIRE VISA AM SAYING THIS BECAUSE I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL CASES WHERE PEOPLE WITH FALSE DOMUMENT RECEIVED VISA WHILES THE ONE WITH GENUINE DOCUMENTS WAS REFUSED.NOW IF HIS REFUSAL WAS BASED ON THE ORAL FACE TO FACE INTERVIEW THEN IT WASN’T ENOUGH REASON BECO’S PSYCHOLOGY TEACHES THAT PEOPLES BEHAVIOR ARE INFLUENCED OR CHANGES WHEN THEY GET TO KNOW THEY ARE BEEN WATCHED
Please i have problem when i tried to fill the DS-160 forms it tells me an unexpected error has been occrred while processing my previuos request and it says the error has been reported to the site adminstrator with no futher action is required so i have to retrieve my DS-160 application forms by enter my application ID. I did but still doesnt still work i need help please.
I REALY HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE US EMBASSY.GHANAIANS ARE BEEN REFUSE A VISA WITHOUT ANY EXPLANATION.SOMETIMES THE OFFICER DONT EVEN ALLOW U TO ANSWER QUESTIONS.THEY ARE PLAYING WITH PEOPLES EMOTIONS.I THINK THE EMBASSY HAVE TO LOOK UPON THIS.PEOPLE HAVE TANGIBLE REASONS TO TRAVEL BUT ALWAYS REFUSE A VISA.WHY.GHANA GOVERNMENT HAVE TO TALK TO THE US EMBASSY TO LOOK AT THIS ISSUES
sometimes it’s marvels me upon the ground people are being denied of US visa. if the
Us want to reduce illegal immigrant in their country then they should’t make acquiring visa too difficult for people or else people who get their visa will not want to come back because they might have the perception that renewing your Visa especially is very difficult.
Another thing too is that people paying for service fees and denying with no tangible reason agitate them and then you will realize their love for this beautiful country deminished or reduce as result they grow to hate the nation base on simple issues. thank you. America is a nice country with very good people. so the consolate should be careful of what they do or countries who cannot contain pressure and the unfairness of deying it’s Citizens with no Tangible reason will also advice themself. but i hope this will not happen because it doesn’t matter were we might come from we are all bothers and sisters. only fairness and respect can reduce or even stop
the conflict of fighting and killing will stop
they are going to get back the money whcih they spent in building the house because they will refuse 80% visa and no refund of visa fee….
This is just contract of building house to Ghanians and then paying them by our visa fee…
America u guys have come again…..
i dont understand how come the lady in window 9 keeps on refusing more people for no particular reason
what is wornd with this so call system am trying to book an appointment ba trust i cant even get a date ? OMG
When will American embassy pay for our numerious re-found in terms visa refusal? Is it not rubbery, or stealing? We are paying a huge amount for visa, but always refusal.
