Human resource development critical for Ghana’s development
Mr Stephen .B. Amponsah, Director of the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI), has underscored the need to invest in the human resource development of the nation at all levels.
This, he said, would help the country to equip particularly the youth with the relevant skills and knowledge for the effective utilization and management of state resources.
Mr Amponsah said this in a speech read on his behalf at the seventh graduation ceremony of the Institute of Business Studies of the NVTI in Kumasi at the weekend.
In all, 190 graduates in stenography and secretarial passed out after three-year training and were awarded with certificates.
The theme was: “The Role of an Efficient Secretary in an Organization”.
Mr Amponsah acknowledged the fact that the greatest asset any nation could boast of was its people, explaining that it was the duty of stakeholders to prioritize human resource development for the benefit of the nation.
The Director announced that the NVTI had reviewed its secretarial and Information, Communication and Technology syllabi and therefore asked secretarial institutions to strengthen their competencies for quality work.
He charged the graduates to be disciplined and strive to put into practice the knowledge they had acquired to benefit their career development.
Mrs Florence Adufutse, Manageress of the Institute, appealed to corporate bodies to come to its aid as it plans to develop its newly acquired land at Asuoyeboa in Kumasi.
She said they should also contribute their quota for the expansion of the facilities at the institute to provide access to the growing youth to be educated in secretarial courses.
She praised the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication for establishing an internet café and also donating 20 computers and accessories to the institute to broaden the knowledge of students.
Mr Emmanuel Kwabena Tetteh, a businessman, who chaired the function, urged the youth to enroll in the institute to upgrade their skills in meeting the challenges ahead.
