Ghana Railway Company to clear illegal structures along railway lines
The Ministry of Transport and the Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA) on Thursday reminded the public that the clearing of illegal structures and properties along the railway lines would be carried out as scheduled.
A statement signed by Mr Kweku Sersah-Johnson of the Public Affairs Directorate at the Ministry said there were certain unscrupulous individuals and groups of persons claiming that they could influence officials not to clear the illegal structures.
These people have been going round occupiers of land and properties belonging to Ghana Railway Company collecting monies under the pretext of using such funds to influence officials of GRDA and the State to halt the clearing of structures within the railway reservation and ejection of squatters from such lands.
The statement said “anyone caught collecting such monies would be prosecuted according to the laws of Ghana” warning those who paid such monies that they did so at their own risk.
The statement also noted that people were faking Ghana Railway company logo to create some form of legitimacy for their illegal occupation and warned that offenders caught would be dealt with ruthlessly according to the law.
