Christians should develop their communities – Clergy

Bishop Dr Wallace Sibley, General Secretary of the Church of God International in the United States has called on Christians worldwide to foster the development of their communities to enable them win more souls for the Lord.

He said focusing on developmental areas such as education and health, among others was paramount in a Christian service.

He made this call on Tuesday during the graduation of five special coordinating evangelists and a sod cutting ceremony to start the construction of a $100,000 eye clinic for the Binaba community near Zebilla in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region.

He noted that the church considered the health of the people in the area important, which was the reason why it was putting pragmatic measures in place to bring quality health delivery to the door steps of the people.

He was accompanied by three medical specialists, Dr Philip Bonaparte, Dr Kwabena Osafo Koranteng and Dr Wayne Clifford Solomon who provided voluntary medical attention to about 300 people in the area.

Dr Solomon, who is also the Head pastor for the church of God at Great Lakes Region in the United States, called on the coordinating evangelists to be committed to the work of God so that they could help people secure their salvation.

He said the church aimed at transforming and empowering the people in the area to enable them enhance their socio-economic lives.

Mr David Akoogo, Head pastor for the church of God in Binaba, commended the International office of the church for the support and gave the assurance that the people would put the facility into good use.

Pastor Akoogo said aside the health services, the facility was to render to the people, it would also stand as a tool to engage the teaming unemployed youth to generate revenue for themselves.
