Mobile Telecommunications Network (MTN), a global telecommunications giant, has inaugurated a $35 million switch centre at Kaase in Kumasi to enhance the quality of its services.
The ultra-modern centre is the second of its kind to be opened in the country by the company.
Mr Ibrahim Misto, General Manger of Operations in-charge of the MTN Ghana, said the company was determined to provide their subscribers with services that met international standards.
It was on account of this that they had over the years invested in world class technological infrastructure to upgrade its network to enhance network quality and coverage.
The Operations Manager said Ghana was the third in the MTN’s 21 operating countries where the facility had been installed, coming next only to South Africa and Saudi Arabia.
The switch site houses different telecommunication equipment to effectively manage calls between subscribers and transmissions for managing fiber optic network for faster and better network quality.
He said, “these switch sites are among the measures put in place by the Company to ensure that the network quality that its subscribers enjoy is protected at all times in the face of earthquakes and other natural disasters”.
Dr Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah, the Ashanti Regional Minster, said the installation of the equipment would improve the services and facilitate communication between operators in the region and outside world.
He said as Ghana joined the league of middle income nations, the need for rapid advancement in its telecommunications infrastructure could not be overemphasized.
The Regional Minister said the government appreciated the significant contribution of telecommunications companies to the nation’s progress and would continue to adopt policies and measures that would enhance the operations.
